Why we are out-of-network
Insurance networks place strict requirements on therapists — how long sessions can be, which approaches are reimbursable, what diagnostic labels they require, how much information they want about the work itself. For us, the trade-offs of being in-network would change the kind of care we can offer. Out-of-network means we can practice the way we believe in: unhurried, integrative, and confidential.
How superbills work
A superbill is a detailed receipt of services we provide on a regular basis, usually monthly. You submit it to your insurance company. If your plan includes out-of-network mental-health benefits, your insurance may reimburse you for a portion of the cost — typically after you have met your out-of-network deductible.
Reimbursement amounts vary widely by plan. Some plans cover a meaningful percentage. Some cover almost nothing. The simplest way to find out is to call your insurance and ask:
- Do I have out-of-network mental-health benefits?
- What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met this year?
- What percentage of out-of-network outpatient mental-health sessions does my plan reimburse?
- Is there a session cap or annual maximum?
- Do I need pre-authorization for out-of-network mental-health care?
Many people are surprised to find they have meaningful out-of-network coverage they weren’t aware of. Worth asking.

- Out-of-network — superbills provided
Therapy sessions start at $150 and may vary based on the service and clinician. Yoga and wellness sessions are priced separately, depending on session format (one-on-one or group). We do our best to keep pricing accessible while honoring the time, training, and care that good clinical work requires. Reach out for the specific rate that applies to what you are looking for.
Payment
We bill via the SimplePractice client portal. You can pay by credit or debit card. We do not currently process HSA/FSA cards directly, but if your card is connected to a major network (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) it should run as a credit-card transaction; check with your HSA/FSA provider about reimbursement procedures for therapy.
Cancellations and missed sessions
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less notice or missed entirely may be billed at the full session rate. Life happens, and we use judgment — but the policy exists because the time is held for you.

The free 15-minute consult is the simplest way to talk through fees, insurance, and what the work might look like. No commitment required.
Frequently asked questions
-
Do you take any insurance directly?
No. The Therapy Lounge is fully out-of-network. We provide superbills you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan.
-
How do I know if my plan covers out-of-network therapy?
Call the customer-service number on your insurance card and ask: do I have out-of-network mental-health benefits, what is my out-of-network deductible and remaining balance, and what percentage of out-of-network sessions does my plan reimburse? The answers will tell you what you need to know.
-
Can you submit claims to my insurance for me?
No, we do not bill insurance directly. We provide a monthly superbill (an itemized receipt with the codes your insurance needs), and you submit it to your plan for reimbursement.
-
What if I cannot afford the full session fee?
Mention it on your consult call. We will be honest about whether we can work with your situation. If we cannot, we will help you find a clinician or sliding-scale resource who can.
-
Do wellness sessions work the same way for insurance?
No. Wellness sessions (yoga, meditation, somatics) are not clinical therapy and are not eligible for insurance reimbursement. They are self-pay, with pricing that varies depending on whether sessions are one-on-one or part of a group offering. Reach out for current rates.
-
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less notice or missed entirely may be billed at the full session rate. Genuine emergencies are handled with judgment, not strict enforcement.
